foundrymen, how do I make a home made induction furnace?
holley_heffernan asked:
I have been working with metal all my life it seems and I want to start making my own casts?
does anyone work at a foundry anymore these days or is it all done offshore?
also how did you get a job at a foundry if there is anymore left in north america

Are you talking like an aluminum smelting plant where they take scrap metal and smelt it in a furnace, run it through a spectrograph to analyze and then pour into molds for further processing else where? There are still smelting plants around, I know of a few off hand, Los Angele’s and not too long ago there was one outside of Reno, Nevada and also Chattanooga, TN!
If you want to make a home made furnace, I could clue you in on that also.
My father was a Metallurgical Engineer, that’s how I know, I listened and went to the plant with him often.
my answer depends on what your father would say on the idea.
there is a book called the metalcasters bible, your local library should have a copy.
