Spin casting process and techniques

What really happens here that a rubber mold the size of a disc is spun around its central axis at very high speeds. The casting material is most often thermoset plastic which is in liquid form or its molten metal. This liquid material is poured into the mold through its opening which is in the center of the mold. So in order for solidification of the metal or the setting of the plastic as it’s called the filled mold is spun. This is essentially the spin casting process in short.

Usually the mold making substrate in spin casting is organic rubber or its vulcanized silicone. The rubber vulcanizes usually in the middle of the mold making process. Once the vulcanization process has been completed the venting and the gating process must be undertaken by the mold. This requires that the channels be carved in so in order to ensure the proper flow of material and air during the process of casting. The above two processes is carried out with the help of a tool such as a knife or a scalpel. The complexity of the mold is proportional to the time it takes to implement the gating and venting of the mold.

Spin casting machines

There are two types of commercial spin casting machines. Once type is known as a front loading machine and the second is a top loading machine. Now because of the bulkiness and the weight of these spin casting molds there are several advantages to using a front loading machine. The biggest of all advantages is its easy to use and a big time saver. As the diameter of the rubber mold grows so does its weight and when metal is cast it can become extremely heavy. Now because the loading and the unloading of is usually done the hand, people find it easier to manipulate the mold when it’s at waist level which is usually one in one swift fluid motion which is allowed by the front loading spin caster. When it comes to spin casting for commercial requirements this type of behavior is very important as it will maximize the number of casts per hour, hence making it more productive. Also top loading machines are cheaper and don’t have much of a restriction on mold thickness. This means that they are flexible.

What is Spin Casting good for?

Spin casting is a great method if you want to fabricate items with materials that are either thermoset plastics or low temperature metals. Spin casting has many advantages over other process such as Zinc die casting, and injecting molding in terms of costs as well as ease of use. There are cases in which spin casting is used as an alternative to plaster mold casting, sand casting and investment casting.

Essential Jewellery Making Tools For Beginners

Like any other craft, jewellery making has a list of essential tools that will make your hobby much more enjoyable and your results much more professional. For the beginner it can be confusing as the huge selection of tools available range from the basic to the specialist. However, there are certain jewellery making tools that should have a place in everyone’s studio.

The first thing to look at is your surroundings. Tools don’t just include pliers and cutters – the definition also incorporates things such as adequate lighting, a suitable working area and good storage facilities. Ask any jewellery maker or craftsperson which is the most essential tool of all and they will all tell you the same thing: good lighting. Without adequate lighting you will find it harder to do fine work and you risk straining your eyes. If you have directional lighting make sure that it doesn’t come from behind you, as you will end up casting your own shadow across your work, making it difficult to see fine details.

Once you start making jewellery you will be surprised how quickly you start to accumulate equipment, so apart from having a good working area make sure you have plenty of storage facilities. Findings or bead storage boxes are ideal. They’re strong and compartmentalised, meaning there are plenty of separate sections to keep findings and beads stored safely.

There are three basic types of pliers used for jewellery making; round nose, snipe nose and crimping pliers. Round nose pliers (also known as rosary pliers) have rounded jaws that taper to a point. They are used for bending wire and for making loops, coils and spirals. Snipe nose pliers are semi-round with the inside of the jaws being flat. They are used for bending and wrapping wire, making loops and opening and closing jump rings. Crimping pliers have specially notched jaws that are used to fold and crimp metal crimp beads.

Wire cutters, preferably flushing cutting, are essential for making clean, precise cuts on wire, beading wire, eyepins and headpins. It may be tempting to use a pair of ordinary wire cutters to try and save money, but jewellery wire cutters are designed specifically for use with the different types of wire used in jewellery making. A pair of good wire cutters is an investment that will keep their sharp cutting edge for far longer than a cheaper alternative.

Because you are using tools, safety must be a consideration. A good pair of safety glasses is a wise investment and although you won’t need them for simple projects such as stringing beads, cutting wire can produce small chips that can damage the eyes very easily. You will also need to consider other safety measures if you are using glues and adhesives, so ensure that your working area is well ventilated. If you are using any heat (such as kilns or gas burners) then ensure that your jewellery making equipment includes a heatproof surface to stand hot objects on.

Finding a good supplier is your next task. There are plenty of jewellery equipment suppliers, so the first thing is to find one that has a reputation not just for supplying the hobby market, but for supplying the professionals as well. You can be certain that the equipment they supply will be of the highest standard. It is a case of paying for quality, but the bare essentials such as the three basic pliers and a pair of wire cutters will give you a good starting point. From then you can add equipment as you go along, including magnifying work lights, speciality pliers, reamers and, of course, plenty of books on jewellery making!

Metal Furnace

Are you trying to find an immensely cheap way to heat your home? Every year, you get that bite cutting into your pocket book every year when the mercury on the thermometer dips low. This article is actually to offer you some information on the indoor wood furnace and the outside wood furnace. Firstly, it may sound elementary but it’s's helpful to learn a bit about wood and some of its burning traits. In this measurement, there’s an allowance made for air pockets, so you’re going to get about 85 ft. out of a twine of wood. One pound of wood on the average produces 7500 BTU’s of heat, regardless of the species.

One important consideration to recollect is that dense heavy wood will deliver more heat per twine. Each log contains moisture, and it takes about one thousand BTU’s to evaporate the moisture from each pound. Dry wood produces 10 to thirty percent less creosote and is more serviceable to heat your house. It’s an excellent idea to burn drier wood for an indoor wood burning furnace. A good practice to get into is to cut or buy green wood in the start of spring or late winter, dry it as quickly as you can by cutting it to length and stack it so that the air can circulate through the pile. If you stack the wood outside, make sure you cover it from the weather and hold it for eighteen months, or if you can, indoor storage is certainly more preferable. Here’s a awfully fascinating tip for you! If you slid your own trees for your furnace, cut them in the spring or summer and leave them’unlimbed’ until the leaves wither, as they are going to draw moisture out of the wood. Cut the wood to the longest length feasible to fit in your firebox, as the longer it is, the longer the fire will hold. Seasoned wood carries about twenty percent moisture content.
One type indoor wood furnace is formed by many makers and you may wish to consider goodman furnace as one of your selections. The firebox is ceramic and as the fire grows, fresh air flows through the air intake manifold and fans the flames. After the gas is heated to a temperature of 2,000F, it then flows out of the firebox and down the flame path toward the exhaust vent. This amazingly hot air moves toward the vent and its energy passes through a fluid flowing thru an internal heat exchanger. This heat transfer fluid reaches 180F before circulating to an external heat exchanger, usually mounted on the back of the furnace. The energy produced by the furnace is then passed to the home heating system.
One controls the damper on air intake manifold by monitoring the temperature of the heat transfer liquid. When the specified temperature is reached, the damper closes, shutting off the flow of unpolluted air and thus extinguishing the fire. The second aquastat is wired to your house heating system, and will continue to run for a short period of time after the furnace shuts down and will evaporate residual heat from the fire.
The decision as to whether an exterior wood furnace or an indoor wood furnace would be more acceptable for your request will depend upon your personal preference. The out of doors application also removes the risk of a wood- stove fire in the house. If you’re considering a wood-fired heating system for your house, be certain to talk with the pros online . Also visit your local dealer and learn more about whether an indoor wood furnace or an external wood furnace would be better for you. .

It points out how badly off the majority are when it boils down to knowing about old time survival talents, or the power to make things using old time hand tools & strategies.

The survival rate of some of the people on these shows has been quite poor, thanks to the fact that they haven’t ever been instructed on the simple way to exploit old-time pioneer talents in a practical kind of way.

Pioneer skills are not difficult to learn, but they do need a specific amount of study with masses of hands on practice.

Domestic abilities, farm talents, building talents, woodworking skills & metal working talents ; all these skills were mostly learnt thru simple instruction and much practice… Mostly the talents were passed on from ma to child, or from father to son.

Even in today’s super sophisticated, computerised world there is still a place for’old pioneer skills’. They all need to build or fabricate special parts, or to reproduce old damaged parts to reconstruct – restore all things old.
currently, the pioneer ability of metal casting is going thru an amazing world wide renaissance…. People want to know
They need to know the way to melt and pour aluminium & bronze into sand moulds. Is all this old age art metal casting stuff tough to learn?

there is a brilliant collection of metal casting ebooks which describe the age old art of metal casting in a way the standard handy man will fully understand & be able to learn about one the most traditional old world abilities known to man.

all that it takes is to have the ability to build the simple equipment & tools and then learn the special methods to create sand castings in Bronze & aluminum. It is a pleasurable & rewarding pastime, but off course it is hot soiled work and can also be unsafe, but then all old world skills and may be claimed as possibly dangerous, and that is where commonsense is used to stop any potential hazards. if you’re hunting for an old world challenge, then welcome aboard the world talents, old world abilities express.
