Anyone tried to cast silver in a aluminum mold?

Has anyone tried it?

Can you just cover it with carbon,preheat the mold and don’t cast anythign to big?

    No, I’ve never tried it. Sterling silver and fine silver have a higher melting point than aluminum, and you might be asking for trouble trying to cast those metals in aluminum molds. Aluminum molds are fine for lead or low-temp pewter casting, but I really don’t know about silver. Jewelery makers and silversmiths generally use lost wax casting in a type of single-use, plaster investment mold – though there are some metal ingot molds available. I believe that they are made of a type of steel, and are very plain.

    I’m genuinely curious myself to hear about anyone successfully casting silver in aluminum molds, and what technique they used.
