Cuttlefish bone ring casting (how to, demonstration and technique)
Cuttle bone casting is an ancient technique. It is a natural material well suited to the casting process. In this video I outline the steps used to cast a ring.

@donadicarlo
I’ll try.
Even though I think you’d have a better chance as a regular.
You should be able to take pictures of your own work.
I agree you had no ill will. I was shocked those us who have been going there for years can not photograph. Videos helped me remember they were really ticked about it. But now no one is allowed maybe you could call them and tell them you removed there name etc. I appreciate your thoughtful replies.
@donadicarlo
It’s true I don’t get it. Because It’s my ring that I am showing. I did it myself. This was my experience. If I video taped him at all, I’d understand. I’m sorry we’re going to have to agree to disagree. The faces are covered and the studio name has been removed as the last tag. I’ll ask another teacher to see how she’d feel. Because I personally wouldn’t have a problem.
It wasn’t vindictive as you’d like to paint it.
You don’t get it . You have to ask permission…..do it yourself and them post that.. not another’s persons project, perhaps you are not an artist but, I would be mad of someone taught a class I teach..IT WAS CARLS PROJECT not just a technique that you posted .If ou don’t get it then we are done. I spoke my mind. ASk someone else who teaches how they feel..
You should blur the faces. And yes cuttlefish casting is not new but Carls Project is his idea… His class which he makes money teaching… prior to this we could take pictures for ourselves but, not to publish them . And we ask permission from the teacher… everyone says they did not see your camera and it looks like it is at waist level… Not out in the open….I typed in Farrin O’Conner to find your video.
@kevinflory
It’s not about his design but about a process that he himself learned somewhere else and shared.
Like any other learning. If I was taught math, then I should be able to share that knowledge with someone else.
It’s silly. That they wouldn’t expect sharing. Or encourage it.
For it is the essence of creativity.
Thanks for your opinion.
I’ll cover the faces. And if a photo from outside is a problem. I’ll cover that too.
@donadicarlo
I didn’t title it Farrin O’Conner. Cuttlefish casting is the title.
There are three blurry faces for three seconds. Which I could cover up. If privacy is truly the issue.
I believe your problem is with the studio, who forbids cameras. And not me.
There response is sad. I doubt it could be changed.
This is not secret knowledge. There are a lot of other videos on this.
This is how knowledge works. I learned something and am not free to share it?
The problem is you used the name of the studio without permission of the studio or the teacher. I agree it is not a new technique. but Carls project is his idea. The other people in the studio did not give permission for you too film them and post this… It is a matter of privacy. And you titled titled it Farrin O’Conner. I think you should take it down and apologize to the studio. Call them . As i said cameras are forbiddon now
@kevinflory
by generating interest in taking a class like this.
@donadicarlo
I am truly sorry. I didn’t intend to be hurtful. I was solely documenting my experience and my ring. I limited my pictures to my own work. I enjoyed the class and was excited about the process.
I was under the impression that this an ancient technique practiced for… forever. And not a new idea owned by someone as their bread and butter.
Do you think this documentation is a true replacement for 8 hrs of hands on experience training? I think it would have a positive effect.
you know you ruined it for all of us by posting this. It is a class that is someone else’s
bread and butter.. Not yours to share.
Now none of us can take pictures in the studio thanks a lot.
@tubulawesome
get a cuttlebone, some silver, a propane torch and a crucible are the main things.
You’ll need a hacksaw and a carving tool too, like a pencil. Oh and some sandpaper and different metal wires.
cool! I want to try this out! What do I need to get?
first! haha, I’m always first!
