Where can I find people on-line who know about carving wax jewelry?

I’m making an engagement ring for my girlfriend via wax carving (then cast into white gold) but I don’t have much experience to draw from. Is there an on-line community where I could ask questions and get answers from people who have experience? (I know there are classes offered at different schools, but I’m way out in the boonies. No classes out here -_- )
Thanks!

I dont think so but you can go to a local(or in town) jewlery shop and they can help you draw out what you want for the ring. They also do a lot of price cutting when online i don’t think you could.

I am a retired jeweler who specialized in carving wax for lost wax mountings. You need wax and simple carving tools and a lot of patience. I am sending you some web sites that should get you on the right track. This is really a process for skilled hands, but it isn’t impossible. However, it is not recommended that you cast the wax or try to set the stone.

Beyond all that, you would need a cold steel ring mandrill that you can mold the ring on to. Then, you would need to build in the prong structure to exactly hold the size of the diamond you have chosen. Then, you would want to etch, hot point melt or drill out certain areas, such as under where the diamond will sit as a closed back on a ring that holds a diamond will not do it any favors, other areas for detail such as vines, leaves, etc. You should know the exact size of your fiance’s finger or whomever casts your mounting and sets your diamond for you will have to size the ring after it has been cast.

Your first task is to find a goldsmith who works with wax molds and a stone setter as neither are skills that you can teach yourself from the Internet.
