Sand casting is a method, which is used to make or produce enormous parts and equipment made out of brass, aluminum, iron and bronze. The metal is first melted and then gently poured into a mould, which is made from sand.

The cavity in the sand is made in the following methodology. The desired pattern is made that is of wood or resin in whatever shape that the sand caster wants the part to turn out. In rare cases, the pattern might be made from metal. This pattern is placed in a cavity in the sand. The cavity is generally housed in a flask which is box like. The pattern is then packed into the moist sand. The sand keeps the shape of the pattern when it is removed from the box. The person making the sand cast also will make a reservoir called a riser into which excess molten metal can flow. A second mold is created for the higher part of the sand cast in an analogous way.
The mould is generally made from 2 parts. The higher part is called as the cope and the lower part of the mould is called as the drag. The line, which separates the higher part and the lower part, is known as as the parting line. The sand in part and the core print are the things, which fill in the cope. The gating process and the core are made to be near to the parting line. The higher part is the joined to the drag and the pattern is covered by covering it with sand. The strategies, which help to make the sand compact, are called the mechanical and vibration strategy. Following this there is a separation process, which involves the parting of the cope and the drag. The pattern is also removed with utmost care.
The main idea is to remove the pattern without causing any damage to the mould cavity. The melted metal is later poured in the cup for pouring. This is part of the process of gating, which does the job of providing the molten metal to the cavity of the mould. The gating process has a vertical part, which is connected with the pouring cup ; this is called as the sprue. The runners are the horizontal part and the gates are the multiple joints to which it connects.
There are vents, which supply an extension of the gating process. These vents do the job of providing a route for the gases, which are built up, and the air, which is displaced into the atmosphere. The cavity is formed of a size a little bigger than the desired piece to permit the metal to contract as the metal cools to a temperature where it hardens, which is normal.
Once the metal has had the chance to solidify and cool, the mold is opened and the metal part is removes. If there was a successful sand casting, the new part should be a close replica of the pattern. There may be tiny imperfections at the line that need to be removed with a file or grinder.

Best pressure die casting
This relates to a pressure die casting machine and in particular to an apparatus and method for moving a die of a pressure die casting machine.
Pressure die casting is the injection of melted metal or plastic under high pressure into a mould cavity.
Before injecting the melted metal into the cavity, the mould is “closed” i.e. the two halves of the mould, called dies are brought together, after which dies are held together while the melted metal is forced into the cavity they form. The metal is allowed to solidify in the shape of mould cavity and then the dies are pulled apart so that solidified object may be ejected and the cycle repeated.
To manufacture die castings free of pores and shrink holes it is normal practice to fill the mould at high pressure and to let the metal solidify while under high pressure so as to effect compression of die casted metal. The apparatus which closes the dies and holds them together needs to have capacity to withstand this high pressure and it is required to work for long hours.
To simplify the clamping procedure for holding the dies together the apparatus uses a die casting machine which has one die fixed on the machine base and second die half is removable into and out of apparatus. Thus movement and control apparatus might be given for one half of die. This has an additional advantage that the hot melted metal can be fed into the mould cavity or chamber between the dies through a sprue in the fixed die.
Aluminium and copper alloys that attack and erode machine components with which they are in regular contact are generally produced in what is called cold chamber machine, whereas tin, lead and zinc die castings are processed in a chamber called hot chamber machine. The pressure die casting machine is equally well used in hot and cold chamber pressure die casting.
A die casting machine uses a fixed and moveable die. Four tie bars or guideways are rigidly connected to two plates upstanding from the machine lease; one die is placed on one plate while the other die is slidably mounted on the tie bars. Pressure oil is given to an operating cylinder containing an operating piston which is linked to a displacement yoke linked in turn with guide spars these are externally threaded to receive nuts between which the yoke is clamped.
The dies are closed and melted metal is entered into cavity of dies from the sprue in the fixed die and required pressure is given. After the metal solidifies the pressure on the dies is released and two halves of dies are separated and finished product is taken out and process of pressure die casting is repeated.
The same process of pressure die casting is used in plastic moulded die casting products the only difference being that instead of melted aluminium, melted plastic is poured into the die from a sprue fixed in lower die and required pressure is given. After the plastic cools down and solidifies the pressure is released, and die opened and finished product is taken out and process repeated.
i need help determining the correct screw or bolt to use?
1988 sable. i removed the steering column, but managed to lose the screw that holds the little nylon tube that has a wire inside that connects the column shifter to the indicator in the instrument gauges ( shows PNDDL). the screw should be a machine screw because it goes into the aluminum casting. it also should be metric since most of the other fasteners are metric. ford does not have the screw. the closest i have found is a metric (M4) machine screw, but it will not go in very far without binding.
is there a method to determine what the thread type and even if it is a machine screw or a sheet metal screw? i went to the hardware store & just kept going in and out with various SAE, metric, and sheet metal screws ( they were very nice about it), but never found one that would fit~

i might not have made it clear. the ford parts counter could not even find the screw in their diagrams. it might come with the nylon tube, but that part is obsolete without replacement.

I was at work last night and a co-worker blew up a machine. I mean literally blew up a machine. I was standing 10 feet away when the incident occurred. I was minding my own business, snipping some wires when all of a sudden BOOM… the loudest noise I’ve ever heard in my life. It is a dye cast machine which means it molds molten metal. So as soon as I heard the BOOM my body said “Run biotch” so I did; there was fire and smoke and debris sprawled out in a 100 foot radius. My question is what removes poop stains from underwear?
